Display Energy Certificate

Display Energy Certificates (DECs) are designed to show the energy performance of public buildings.

They use a scale that runs from ‘A’ to ‘G’ - ‘A’ being the most efficient and ‘G’ being the least efficient.

Display Energy Certificates (DEC’s) last for 1 year for buildings with a total useful floor area of more than 1,000 square metres.

They last for 10 years when the total useful floor area is over 250 square metres and up to 1,000 square metres.

Who Needs a Display Energy Certificate (DEC)?

Public authorities must have a Display Energy Certificate (DEC) for a building if all the following are true:

  • it’s at least partially occupied by a public authority (eg school, council, leisure centre, college, NHS trust)
  • it has a total floor area of over 250 square metres
  • it’s frequently visited by the public

Private organisations don’t need a Display Energy Certificate (DEC) but can choose to get one if they want to. They may still need an Energy Performance Certificate if the building is sold or rented.

Appointment

Our appointed assessor or engineer will make contact in accordance with your instructions in order to arrange an appointment. We will confirm the appointment date and time to you via email. We will also confirm the assessors/engineers accreditation number so that you can check their accreditation status.

Certificate(s) Issued

Once the assessor or engineer has attended your property in order to complete the assessment/inspection, the report/certificate will be produced. Your report/certificate will usually be produced and uploaded within 24-48 hours of the appointment taking place.
